Top Notch Developers Wanted

We're Hubbub, a small company, with big ideas. We're always on the look out for great developers with the chops to take a problem being faced by our team, and do whatever it takes to solve it. If you can rustle up lunch whilst thinking about it, all the better.

Making The World a Better Place

Hubbub is saving independent food shops by letting people order online when they can't get to the shops themselves. We mask the complexity of ordering from lots of separate shops and allow customers to place a single order online and receive all their weekly shopping in one go. It's good for the shops because it lets them reach a wider audience, and it's good for our busy customers because it allows them to support their local community. Doesn't that sound more exciting than another social cat picture coupon site?

Why Developers?

As a developer, you may be thinking "online shopping? what's so challenging about that?" But there's so much more to Hubbub than just an e-commerce platform. Working hard to create an amazing shopping experience for customers is certainly part of what we do. But there's also providing a means for the shop keepers to manage a large volume of orders daily without necessarily being computer experts. There's also the office back-end used by our super-friendly staff. That's not to mention potential for a whizz-bang real-time system for the drivers that doesn't even exist yet!

Yes, shops and drivers and exceptional customer service is the meat and veg of our day-to-day operations, but at the end of the day Hubbub is a company that is fuelled by software. If you're the kind of developer who loves a challenge, and isn't afraid of tackling a project without a fully fleshed-out spec given in advance, then we want to hear from you!

The Setting

We're a small team based near Highbury Fields in London, and providing a great place to work is very dear to our hearts.

Our core app is built on Rails, we practice TDD, using Shoulda & Cucumber, use Pivotal Tracker to keep track of what needs doing, and Chef to automate our deployments - but if all your experience is in using other technologies, then that's ok too, so long as you're smart and up for learning something new.

The Package

Everybody knows that developers love bacon, so we're offering a year's supply of it* free to successful candidates. But of course we don't expect you to live on bacon alone, so you'll also get:

To apply, visit developers.hubbub.co.uk/instructions and complete the (painfully simple) task set out there. We don't much like recruiters, so we set the bar just high enough that they'd trip over it!
